  • Socketing Costs

I remember reading somewhere that the cost of adding sockets depends on hero level. I can see it varies based on item level and rarity.

Does anyone know how the mechanics work exactly?

Socketing costs do not depend on your hero's level, but on the item level instead.

// Edit: the item's quality grade (uncommon, rare, epic, legendary) is also affecting the cost

Also wether it is a set item or not: e.g. its 280 gems for a level 70 legendary standard pistol, 350 for a level 70 legendary set pistol, and 375 for a level 75 legendary set pistol (yes I have one!).

Yup, item quality grade, set items, special items and item levels.

        Set items
        Lvl 70=350
        Lvl 71=355
        Lvl 72= 360
        Lvl 73=365
        Lvl 74=370
        Lvl 75=375

Special items like integrals mantle and rylockes/encryptic start at 280 and increase by 4 gems per level.

Cheers. Any info on lower quality stuff? Does it cost gold at some point? Also does the second body armour socket cost the same as the first?

I've never seen them cost gold and the second socket on chest pieces is double the first one.

              It always costs gems.
Type # of Powers Level Required Add a Socket
Common 0 -4 1 Gems per Equipment Level
Uncommon 1 -3 1 Gems per Equipment Level
Rare 2 -2 2 Gems per Equipment Level
Epic 3 -1 3 Gems per Equipment Level
Legendary 4 0 4 Gems per Equipment Level
Second Socket for Robe Costs Double
This information is old as I have not double checked it in probably a year so it predates level 71+ gear. The formatting with the paste job I just did also sucks but legendary gear costs 4 gems per equipment level.

There is an additional cost for socketing set items as a level 70 set item cost 350 which is 70 gems more than a standard legendary as previously mentioned by others. I wanna say that it costs an additional 1 gems per item level to socket set items regardless of type but that is from memory but it jives with the level 71+ set item costs mentioned by others.

Did you read about it in the new players guide? I think it suggested adding sockets to living items at low level for the lower gem cost.

                  That's probably it.
