I was rushing through some trials with my BH to collect a season bounty. I tend to do this at a low trial level so I can collect the 10 trials quickly. Thus I also know I can one-shot Kara at the end.
I killed Kara and immediately tapped on the portal. Off I went back to town, and 3 monsters came with me !!! That's the first time I've had to kill monsters in town! Muscle memory kicked in so quickly that I tapped the screen and they died before I could really pay any attention to what happened.
My theory is my bullet(s) killed Kara and I clicked on the portal right away. The piercing bullets meanwhile continued on and roused the monsters after the portal accepted my tap, but before it spirited me away. I would expect to get the "not in combat" message when clicking on the portal with monsters coming after me, but since I didn't I'm proposing this one-off timing. Not sure how this would drag the monsters through the portal into town, but it did.
This is the first time this has happened in all my years, and caused no harm. Thus I am expecting zero effort from you guys to figure this out. I'm just mentioning it to you for the fun of knowing what can happen.
