When you drop a gemstone from your inventory and then pick it up again it counts towards the war supplies event milestones.
this is obviously not an efficient way to reach your milestones but it is interesting none the less.
Oh one more thing. Dropping a stack of 100 will only count as one when you pick it up. Pity - hahaha
