Am I right to assume ... about Crafting?

It seems it makes no sense to craft anything much before level 70. Even the YouTube guides feature lvl 70 players. It seems the same can be said about buying recipes, buying weapons and gear, and buying crates for gear, etc.

You can do quite well playing a "live off the land" strategy (i.e., only play with dropped gear and no crafting). It is a throwback to how the game originally worked before crafting was added. However, your progress will be slower since you will miss out on set bonuses and special gear effects. In a timed event, most players craft new gear every 10 or so trials to speed up their progress, but if you have plenty of time, it is cheaper to just play with the gear that the game drops. Most early game gear (before you can craft level 72 stuff) is only good for a limited number of runs, so it is more economical to just craft Rare or Epic gear before hitting level 70.

Thanks BTW, one of my favorite poems, "...Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!"

Shelley's poem is a great case study in irony.
