Players' Companions

Is it possible for players to have two, or even three, of the same companions? I constantly see one or two people on the Warrior Trials Leaderboard, with at least two of the same companions, and usually in the top ten.

Two or more of the same free companions? No.

Two or more of the same paid companions? Yes.

Also, each free companion has a paid equivalent like Norgrim being the equivalent of Marcus.

Paid companions are hero specific rather than shared and cost 500 gems each and are purchased from Alice.

I only have three Xagans.

I can not be bothered enough to go deep enough into the story levels to get any of the free companions.

I don't think I've EVER used Xagan. His design is so poor some swear he's secretly working for Ragadam!
