Have gemstones always topped out at Brilliant? I have it in my head, and it could be a different game I am thinking of, that gemstones used to either go beyond Brilliant, or there was another configuration in place.

As far as I can correctly remember...

Although it may be another game as you posted; I also recall another way.
Maybe from back in the OLD days, when you could craft items from other items.
Mind you, those weren't the good old days.

Yes, Brilliants have been the top gemstone as long as I have been playing which is just a bit.

Yes, I remember the old crating method where you had to have three seed pieces and wait, hmm 24h?, to see if you got anything useful. I never got anything useful.

Yes, Brilliant is the max in Eternium:

BRILLIANT RED RUBY: +50 Power
BRILLIANT TOPAZ: +50 Critical Rating
BRILLIANT EMERALD: +50 Vitality
BRILLIANT SAPPHIRE: +50 Haste
BRILLIANT AMETHYST: +50 Ability Rate
BRILLIANT DIAMOND: +200 Armor

Hmmm... it might have been Kings Road. I'm pretty sure it wasn't any of the Torchlight or Diablo games. Unfortunately Kings Road was shut down a year ago.
