They will never make use for gold as it is non premium currency. Accept the fact its pointless and always will be. They want you to buy gems and spend money.

As I mentioned, this is a stupid line of reasoning on "their" part and I hope they realize it. Things that are *definitely* good can cost the premium currency (ability slots, item socketing, gemstone packs, etc.). Things that are a shot in the dark (gamble, locked chests, uncommon rings, item crafting) can NOT cost the premium currency, no-one will ever use it for those purposes.

If you make everything cost the premium currency you don't get more money, just more angry players and a worse rep. The balance is in a middle ground, and in that middle ground gold should have its own, non-overlapping, uses along with gems.
