How about make all the buff/debuff icons inactive. Add a button in the inventory/char screen to show all current buff/debuff that's active. Since the game is paused while in char/inventory screen, player can carefully check the buff/debuff status with leisure. Red (Developer)

That would only work if someone took the time to create a guide to what all of the different icons mean. I am still learning the different icons, and it is helpful to be able to click on them to open up the description and see the damage effects. I can see a time where I will no longer need to be able to open the icons to see what they actually mean, but think of all of the new players who will want to be able to access that information while they are learning the new weapons and skills once they go live...
